Learn graffiti knitting at Yarnstorm Bootcamp

Weekend of the Woolly Wildflowers - Woolly Wildflower ponders the meaning of lifePlease note: due to rampaging knitting zombies this Boot Camp has been moved to October 21 2012.

Graffiti knitting and crochet: yarnstorming. It’s a fantabulous thing. You’re putting your own woolly mark on the world, you’re creating something utterly bizarre, you’re using the city (or town or countryside) as your canvas, it’s cuddly, it’s quirky, it can be whatever you want it to be and it’s removable.

My ‘Deadly Knitshade’ side graffiti knits with glee, and encourages people to do the same.

And to be honest my Lauren O’Farrell side thinks it’s pretty splendiferous too.

It’s so much fun, in fact, that I think it’s a skill worth passing on. So, who fancies learning how to yarnstorm (from the sneaky stitcher who invented the term)?

So when I was asked if I’d like to teach a weekend workshop I came up with this little idea…

GRAFFITI KNITTING NEEDS YOU!

Do you have what it takes to be a five star sneaky stitcher? Do you want to learn to yarnstorm like you mean it? Do you long to go crazy with your crochet? Do you have the guts to take your garter stitch where no knitter has gone before?

For the first time ever two of Knit the City’s most hardcore handmade heroes, dastardly Deadly Knitshade (me!) and my fibre-flinging friend The Fastener are offering a whole weekend of woolly mischief on the wonderful Isle of Wight at our Yarnstorm Bootcamp.

You’ll arrive a humble handmaker, you’ll go home a certified Graffiti Yarnstormer or die trying (or was that tie-dying?).

Plarchie can't wait to eat... we mean meet you!

Places are open to both knitters and crocheters who already know how to stitch but wish to learn the way of the yarnstorm.

The Yarnstorm Bootcamp will take place from October 19 to 21 2012 and there’s a ton of lovely stuff included, with two days of workshops. It ends with a graduation ceremony, where you get an official group photo, a certificate, a shiny graduate badge, and the chance to have your picture taken with Plarchie, the giant knitted squid (who may or may not decide to eat you for lunch).

We’ll teach you all the important sneaky stitching stuff from creating your yarnstorming identity, to choosing your target, the yarnstorm itself and immortalising it with photos when you’re done, and even sweet-talking the authorities.

The venue is ever so lovely too. Sea, sand, sneaky stitching, and possible sunshine in one of the UK’s prettiest places! What more can a fledging yarnstormer ask for?

To find out exactly what you get for the all-inclusive rate rush wildly over to the Yarnstorm Bootcamp page to find out more.  If you don’t want to know more, and just want to book you can go straight to the booking website.

Basically you get to hang with The Fastener, Cooey the Pigeon, Plarchie the squid and me, eat cake, make stuff and have a weekend of crazy yarnstorming. It’s going to be fantabulous fun and we can’t wait.

We’d love to have you join us for some yarnstorming fun and we promise it’ll be a woolly weekend to remember.  Yay!
