Meet the Knits: London Steampunk meets Stitch London

Since creating the world’s largest knitted squid my secret steampunk side has been most definitely outed. I feel no shame in saying I would rather wear a bowler hat with a squid on it than any of your high society headwear.

Steampunk Squid Hat

A bowler hat without a squid is like a fish without a finger. Or something.

So when the fabulous folks at Pornokitsch asked me if I wanted to bring my London-flavoured knits and my ridiculously gigantic stitched cephalopod along to an event featuring one of society’s most splendid steampunk scribes, I was falling over Plarchie’s tentacles to say “By gosh, I’m in!”

Steampunk ladies: well-known for having tea-drinking receptacles stuck to their faces

Gail Carriger is a steampunk scribbler extraordinaire with a teacup over her face. I’m a knitting squid lady with a mug of tea over my face. What better book-signing match could there be?

According to her Facebook page description “New York Times Bestselling author Gail Carriger writes urbane fantasy steampunk comedies of manners. She is fond of teeny tiny hats and tropical fruit.” and according to her website the best way to describe her books is to “Imagine Jane Austen dabbling in science and steam technology. Then imagine P.G. Wodehouse suddenly dropped vampires into the Drones Club. The Parasol Protectorate books are the resulting progeny. They feature a soulless spinster confronting Queen Victoria’s grumpy werewolf investigator over the issue of lisping vampires.”

So join us for an evening of steampunky book signing and giant squid. I’ll be there along with Plarchie, Cooey the pigeon (who will be armed with her very own tiny and lethal parasol) and all my other Stitch London knits (including my Mortal Engines steampunk book cosy). Grab a copy of Knit the City or Stitch London, or just come and say hello to some city knits.

Steampunk Stitch London Knits

Stitch London: the steampunkiest knitting book ever. When you use the right camera filter.

Since I’m giving you all very short notice I expect I’ll just be watching Gail’s adoring fans queuing to get their books signed while I teach my knitted pigeon the dark arts. I do hope they have tea.
